Who are the children of Mowgli?

Of course, let's analyze this concept in detail.

Child-mowglis — are children who grew up in isolation from human society and were deprived of care, love, and communication with people, often from the earliest age. They got their name in honor of Mowgli, the main character of the works of Rudyard Kipling, raised by wolves in the jungle.

Key characteristics of child-mowglis:

  1. Raised by animals: Most often such children were raised by wild animals (wolves, monkeys, dogs, leopards, etc.). They imitated the habits, ways of obtaining food, and communication of their "adoptive parents".

  2. Complete isolation: Sometimes a child could be isolated by people (for example, locked in a basement, room) and deprived of any social contact.

Major consequences of life in isolation:

  • Unable to speak: The most striking sign. The child has not heard human speech, so he cannot learn to speak. His communication is limited to sounds that he has taken from animals.

  • Lack of social skills: They do not understand social norms, rules of behavior, do not experience attachments as do ordinary people. They can be aggressive, scared, or completely indifferent to others.

  • Primate walking: They often move on all fours, like their "teachers".

  • "Wild" behavior: Eat raw meat or what they find, do not use tools, may howl, roar, or hiss.

  • Irreversible developmental disorders: There is the concept of "critical period" (approximately up to 5-7 years), when the child's brain is most receptive to mastering language and social skills. If the child was isolated during this period, the consequences are often irreversible. It is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to return such a child to society and socialize him.

Well-known real cases:

  • Wild girl Kamala (India, 1920s): One of the most famous cases. At the age of about 8 years was found in a wolf den. Moved on all fours, ate raw meat, could not speak. After many years of rehabilitation, she was able to learn only a few words and began to walk.

  • Jenny (USA, 1970s): A girl whose father kept her locked in a room from infancy to 13 years old. She was tied to a toilet chair and had almost no contact with people. Despite intensive rehabilitation, she was unable to fully master speech and social skills.

  • Oksana Malaya (Ukraine, 1990s): A girl who lived in a dog kennel from the age of 3 to 8 years, left to herself. Dogs became her "family". When she was found, she ran on all fours, barked, and growled. Thanks to rehabilitation, she was able to partially socialize, but intellectual development remained impaired.

What is the difference between literary Mowgli and real child-mowglis?

It is important to understand that in books and films, the story of Mowgli is a romanticized fiction. Real child-mowglis:

  • Do not become "kings of the animals", but are victims of terrible circumstances.

  • Do not acquire superpowers, but, on the contrary, irreversibly lose their human potential.

  • Their stories almost always end tragically, without a chance for a full life in society.

Conclusion

Child-mowglis — is a tragic phenomenon that demonstrates that a person is not born with ready knowledge and skills, but becomes a person only through education and communication in human society. Their stories serve as a harsh reminder of the importance of love, care, and socialization in early childhood.
