Ta članek preučuje pojav tako imenovanih „enletnih semen“ — semen, ki prinesejo pridelek le v prvi generaciji in jih ni mogoče uporabiti za kasnejše sejanje. Na podlagi analize zgodovine tehnologije omejevanja genetske uporabe (GURT), znane kot „Terminator tehnologija“, pa tudi semen F1 hibridov, ki so trenutno na voljo na trgu, članek rekonstruira dejansko sliko tega, katere semene res potrebujejo letni nakup in zakaj. Posebna pozornost je namenjena ločevanju mitov od dejstev: nobeno kmetijsko podjetje na svetu ni komercializiralo genetsko modifikiranih sterilnih semen, vendar so semena F1 hibridov, ki so široko dostopna na trgu, biološko nesprejemljiva za shranjevanje semen. Na temelju analize povijesti Genetske tehnologije ograničavanja upotrebe (GURT), poznate kao „Terminator tehnologija”, kao i F1 hibridnih sjemena koja su trenutno dostupna na tržištu, članak rekonstruira stvarnu sliku o tome koja sjemena doista zahtijevaju godišnju kupnju i zašto. Posebna pažnja posvećena je razlikovanju mitova od činjenica: nijedna poljoprivredna korporacija na svijetu nije komercijalizirala genetski modificirana sterilna sjemena, a ipak F1 hibridna sjemena, koja su široko dostupna na tržištu, biološki nisu pogodna za očuvanje sjemena. Za ukrajinski agrarni sektor, gdje poljoprivrednici svake godine suočavaju se s izborom između produktivnosti hibrida i troškovnih ušteda tradicionalnih sorti, razumijevanje ovih mehanizama ima posebno praktično značenje.

This article examines the phenomenon of so-called "one-year seeds" — seeds that produce a crop only in the first generation and cannot be used for subsequent sowing. Based on an analysis of the history of Genetic Use Restriction Technology (GURT), known as "Terminator Technology," as well as F1 hybrid seeds currently available on the market, the article reconstructs the actual picture of which seeds truly require annual purchase and why. Particular attention is devoted to distinguishing myths from facts: no agricultural corporation in the world has commercialized genetically modified sterile seeds, yet F1 hybrid seeds, widely available on the market, are biologically unsuitable for seed saving. For Ukraine's agricultural sector, where farmers annually face a choice between the productivity of hybrids and the cost savings of traditional varieties, understanding these mechanisms holds special practical significance.

Na osnovu analize istorije Genetske tehnologije ograničavanja upotrebe (GURT), poznate kao „Terminator tehnologija“, kao i semena F1 hibrida koja su trenutno dostupna na tržištu, članak rekonstruiše stvarnu sliku o tome koja semena zaista zahtevaju godišnju kupovinu i zašto.
